Dear Friend,
I have just read your letter concerning the celebration of the tenth anniversary of our late great friend Leo Matarasso, in Paris on 6 December. I am sorry that I could not attend, especially as I was in Paris where I have been receiving medical treatment for several months due to my state of health. In addition to the unforgettable memories I have of Leo, I would have enjoyed meeting you and the other friends of the League, the Foundation and the Tribunal.
I would also have liked to participate in the event in honour of Lelio Basso, to which Linda invited me in a letter dated 20 November, which I just found when I returned to my office for a visit. For me, Lelio’s ideas are still relevant today and can be adapted to the changing situation. I would like, if possible, to have the conclusions of the proceedings of the event of 15 and 16 December and to join my tribute to Lelio Basso and Leo Matarasso with that of the other participants.
